Dr. Albana Greca, MD, MMedSc – Family Physician & Medical Author

Founder & Lead Medical Author, Prostate Treatment Options

Family Physician / General Practitioner • MD • MMedSc • Patient Educator

Dr. Albana Greca is a family physician, general practitioner, medical author and clinical researcher with more than 20 years of experience in primary care, general medicine, chronic-disease management and patient education.

At Prostate-Treatment-Options.com, her primary editorial focus is helping men understand enlarged prostate / benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), including urinary symptoms, diagnostic testing, medications, lifestyle measures and available treatment pathways.

My Mission

To make reliable medical information about enlarged prostate easier for patients and families to understand—and to help men recognize symptoms, understand their test results, learn about available treatments and know when specialist care may be needed.

Why I Write About Enlarged Prostate

Enlarged prostate is a common issue in primary care, particularly as men get older.

Many patients first speak with their family physician because they notice changes in urination, such as:

  • frequent urination;
  • waking several times during the night to urinate;
  • a weak or slower urine stream;
  • difficulty starting urination;
  • sudden urinary urgency;
  • dribbling after urination;
  • feeling that the bladder has not emptied completely;
  • or concern about an abnormal PSA result.

These symptoms do not automatically establish a diagnosis of BPH, and they do not automatically mean prostate cancer.

A family physician can play an important role in the initial evaluation, interpretation of symptoms and laboratory results, medication review, recognition of warning signs and referral to a urologist when appropriate.

That is the perspective I bring to Prostate Treatment Options.

My Role at Prostate Treatment Options

As founder and lead medical author, I am responsible for the clinical direction and patient-education standards of this website.

BPH Patient Education

I develop and update clear information about enlarged prostate, urinary symptoms and the questions men commonly have after a BPH diagnosis.

Tests & PSA

I explain how doctors may evaluate urinary symptoms and how PSA results should be interpreted as part of the wider clinical picture.

Medication Education

I explain commonly used BPH medications, how they work, potential benefits, limitations and possible side effects.

Treatment Pathways

I help patients understand monitoring, lifestyle measures, medicines, minimally invasive procedures and surgery without making individualized specialist treatment decisions.

My editorial responsibilities also include:

  • reviewing medical claims for accuracy and balance;
  • identifying symptoms that may require prompt medical attention;
  • distinguishing established treatment from uncertain evidence;
  • using authoritative guidelines and medical research when updating articles;
  • and helping patients prepare better questions for their own physicians.

A Family Physician’s Perspective

An important part of trustworthy medical education is being clear about professional scope.

I am a Family Physician / General Practitioner.

Prostate Treatment Options therefore approaches enlarged prostate primarily from a primary-care and patient-education perspective.

I can help explain:

  • what BPH means;
  • common enlarged prostate symptoms;
  • possible reasons for urinary symptoms;
  • how doctors may initially evaluate BPH;
  • PSA and its relationship with prostate enlargement;
  • common BPH medicines;
  • medication benefits and possible side effects;
  • lifestyle measures;
  • potential BPH complications;
  • when referral to a urologist may be appropriate;
  • and questions patients may wish to ask before a procedure.

Specialist treatments such as TURP, HoLEP, Rezūm, UroLift, Aquablation and other procedures can also be explained for educational purposes.

However, the decision about which procedure is appropriate for an individual patient belongs with the treating urologist. A specialist can assess prostate size and anatomy, bladder function, symptoms, medications, medical history and individual treatment priorities.

My Editorial Approach

Medical information published under my name follows several core principles.

Evidence Before Claims

Whenever possible, medical statements are checked against clinical guidelines, authoritative health organizations and relevant peer-reviewed research.

Clear Patient Language

Medical terminology should help patients understand their health, not make information unnecessarily difficult. Important technical terms are explained in plain language.

Benefits and Risks

Treatments should not be presented only through their potential benefits. Patients also deserve information about limitations, adverse effects and uncertainty.

No Unsupported “Cures”

Herbs, supplements or lifestyle measures should not be presented as guaranteed cures or substitutes for established medical care when the evidence does not support those claims.

Clear Safety Guidance

When symptoms could represent a medical emergency, readers should be told clearly when prompt medical attention is appropriate.

Know When Specialist Care Matters

Family medicine and urology have complementary roles. Individualized specialist procedures and surgical decisions belong with the treating urologist.

Professional Profiles & Verification

A Note to My Readers

One of the reasons I have continued providing medical education online for many years is simple:

Understanding comes before good decision-making.

When you understand what a symptom may mean, why your doctor ordered a test, what a medicine is designed to do, or why a urology referral has been recommended, it becomes easier to participate in your own healthcare.

That is what I want Prostate Treatment Options to provide.

Not fear.
Not miracle claims.
Not a diagnosis from a webpage.

Instead, my goal is to provide clear medical explanations, evidence-based information, practical safety guidance and better questions to discuss with your healthcare team.
