My mission

To make reliable medical information about enlarged prostate easier to understand, so men and their families can recognize symptoms, understand tests and treatment options, and know when specialist care may be needed.

Why I Write About Enlarged Prostate

Enlarged prostate is a common concern in primary care, especially as men get older. Many patients first speak with a family physician after noticing changes such as frequent urination, waking repeatedly at night, a weaker urine stream, difficulty starting urination, urgency, dribbling, or a feeling that the bladder has not emptied completely.

These symptoms do not automatically establish a diagnosis of BPH, and they do not automatically mean prostate cancer. Similar urinary symptoms can have different causes, which is why proper assessment matters.

From a primary-care perspective, my role is to help patients understand what their symptoms may mean, how doctors investigate them, what common test results such as PSA can and cannot tell us, and when referral to a urologist is appropriate.

Readers who are beginning their research can start with my guides to enlarged prostate (BPH), BPH symptoms and urinary problems, and prostate tests.

My Role at Prostate Treatment Options

As founder and lead medical author, I am responsible for the clinical direction and patient-education standards of Prostate-Treatment-Options.com. My work focuses on translating medical guidance and research into practical explanations for patients without presenting general information as individualized medical advice.

BPH & Urinary Symptoms

I explain enlarged prostate, lower urinary tract symptoms, symptom patterns, warning signs and the questions men commonly have after a BPH diagnosis.

PSA & Prostate Tests

I explain how doctors may investigate urinary symptoms and how PSA results fit into a broader clinical assessment rather than acting as a stand-alone cancer diagnosis.

BPH Medications

I explain the purposes, potential benefits, limitations and possible adverse effects of commonly used BPH medicines.

Treatment Pathways

I help readers understand monitoring, lifestyle measures, medications, minimally invasive procedures and BPH surgery, while keeping individualized treatment selection with the treating clinician or urologist.

A Family Physician’s Role in Prostate Health

Trustworthy medical education includes being clear about professional scope. I am a Family Physician / General Practitioner, not a urologist. Prostate Treatment Options therefore approaches BPH primarily from a primary-care and patient-education perspective.

What I Explain

  • what BPH means and how symptoms may present;
  • other possible causes of urinary symptoms;
  • initial medical evaluation and common prostate tests;
  • PSA in the context of prostate health;
  • BPH medication classes, benefits and side effects;
  • lifestyle measures and the evidence behind supplements;
  • possible complications and warning signs;
  • when specialist assessment may be appropriate.

What Requires Individual Specialist Assessment

Decisions about TURP, HoLEP, Rezūm, UroLift, Aquablation and other procedures belong with the treating urologist after considering prostate anatomy and size, bladder function, symptoms, medical history, medications and individual priorities.

Likewise, prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment decisions require appropriate specialist evaluation rather than conclusions based on a webpage or PSA value alone.

A Note to My Readers

Understanding comes before good decision-making.

When you understand what a symptom may mean, why a test has been ordered, what a medicine is designed to do, or why a urology referral has been recommended, it becomes easier to participate meaningfully in your own healthcare.

That is what I want Prostate Treatment Options to provide: clear medical explanations, evidence-based information, practical safety guidance and better questions to discuss with your healthcare team—not fear, miracle claims or a diagnosis from a webpage.
