Tamdura’s long term side effects
Question
I am male 58 yrs and diagnosed for BPH 12 months back. The PSA was 1.95 and prostate size as -43cc and PVR urine retention was -40 cc. My physician prescribed TAMDURA capsule which I have been taking for 1 year.
I recently had a check up and following results. PSA 0.89 / prostate size = -36 cc / pvr = -17cc. My physician now has asked me to continue the same medicine TAMDURA for another 6 months.
Please advise if this medication will eventually shrink the prostate size to a normal level so that I need not take medication.
What are the long-term side effects of this medication?
Thanks and Regards
Answer
Hello dear Sir,
Tamdura is one of the most effective drugs used to treat BHP(benign hyperplasia of the prostate). It is composed of two compounds: an 5-alpha Dutasteride and Tamsulosine.
Dutasteride is an 5-alpha reductase inhibitor drug. It works by preventing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, which is the main Androgen causing BHP.
Tamsulosine is an alpha blocker. It works by relaxing the muscles in bladder and prostate, relieving thus the difficulty in urinating.
Given that Tamdura is the most effective drug in treating BHP, its safety is proven. But, there are some side effects that can happen while using Tamdura.
The side effects are a combination of both, the 5- alpha-reductase compound and the alpha –blocker compound.
Some of the long-term side effects you might experience are as following:
1. Impotence
2. Decreased libido
3. Ejaculation disorders, abnormal ejaculation
4. Breast tenderness and enlargement
5. Rhinitis
6. Headache
7.Blurred vision.
Side effects like a headache, rhinitis, blurred vision, do not require any medical attention. They are most likely to disappear as the body gets used to the meds.
If experiencing one breast tenderness, abnormal ejaculation, decreased libido, impotence, or even if the other side effects are disturbing to you, you should talk to your doctor because they can be slimmed down by using some specific meds.
Taking into account the effect Tamsulosine has had in your condition( it has significantly reduced the sizes of your prostate, your PSA level and your PVR urine retention) and the effectiveness of the drug, proven in many reliable medical trials, we are confident that your state will much improve if you continue using it as your doctor advised.
Tamdura’s long term side effects happen usually one year or two after starting it. Given that you have been using it for a whole year without experiencing its side effects, is a very good indicator.
Even if you do start to experience the side effects, do not worry because they can be cured by using specific drugs. In this case, talking to your doctor is necessary.
